We do not offer tours direct through the hotel, but we can help to organize tours that our guests would like to make. Tours run daily and you can easily arrange tours the day before (except 'Los Tuneles').
A spectacular formation of lava tunnels and arches partly submerged in the sea. Here you can snorkel in several places and normally you see turtles, manta rays, sharks, sea lions, penguins among others. It is 40 minutes in boat from Puerto Villamil. Tours normally last from 9am to 2pm and costs $300 per boat (max. 5 persons). Personally, this is my favourite tour of all the activities on offer in Isabela.
Sierra Negra is the second largest volcanic crater in the world (11km diameter). A car takes you to the edge of the National Park (half an hour from Puerto Villamil). From there, it’s a 1 hour horse ride to the edge of the crater where you can take in spectacular views of the volcano that erupted as recently as October 2005. One hour further on and you arrive at ‘Volcan Chico’ where fumaroles and parasitic craters can be seen. Warning: If it is raining/foggy the views can be restricted and the path can become very muddy. It is advised to wear long trousers and closed shoes. Tour is 8am to 5pm and costs $45 per person. Alternatively you can hire your own guide ($100) and transport ($50) if you would rather walk.
The Tintoreras are a series of small islands directly in front of Puerto Villamil. A boat takes 5 mins to cross the bay and goes slowly along the coastline so you can see the penguins and boobies. You can also snorkel in between the islands. There also get off the boat and take and a short trail that takes you to see sea lions and a spectacular water alley full of resting sharks. The boat costs $35 per person. |
